The Ph.D. in Humanistic Studies (DEH) seeks the creation of knowledge from the field of humanities by conducting top-notch interdisciplinary research with the purpose of expanding the horizons from which a critical reflection on the current environment and its challenges can be created.

This Doctorate seeks to train independent researchers with the abilities, knowledge, and skills to propose, develop, and advise on national and international research projects in their field of specialization; to create new knowledge in the field of humanities; and to develop social entrepreneurship projects with a high response capacity to meet the community’s needs.


Propose, develop, and advise on national and international research projects, in their field of specialization, from planning to execution.

Create new knowledge in the field of Humanities, particularly in the areas of its specialization through peer-reviewed scientific publications, such as articles (in Scopus scientific journals), book chapters, books, or the development of innovative educational programs.

  • We have professors with doctoral degrees and professional experience from Tecnológico de Monterrey’s School of Humanities and Education. 90% of the academic program’s faculty belongs to Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI, Spanish).
  •  This program offers four lines of research: Science, Technology, and Society; Communication and Media; Historical, Cultural, and Literary Discourse studies; and Ethics.
  • Tecnológico de Monterrey holds accreditations such as: SACS*, CIEES, SEP, and CONACYT.**

Comply with the comprehensive evaluation required in the admission process, through an interview conducted by the admissions committee of the graduate program. In addition, the following is necessary:

  • Simple copy of the Bachelor´s degree and/or Master's degree Certificate, where the following information is indicated:
          a. The overall GPA.
          b. Completion date of all the subjects of the study plan.
  •  Simple copy of the Bachelor´s degree and/or Master's degree.
  • Motivation letter or essay in which the candidate explains the reasons for his or her interest in the program, his or her potential contribution to it and the area in which he or she wishes to develop professionally with a research project.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Two letters of recommendation in the institutional format, from employers or professors.
  • Obtain at least 585 points in the adaptive version of the Postgraduate Studies Admission Test (PAEP) or its equivalent in other exams authorized by the Institution.
  • Obtain at least 550 points in the TOEFL exam or its equivalent in the other exams authorized by the Institution as an instrument for assessing the sufficiency of English language proficiency.

On completing their studies, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a high level of theoretical and methodological knowledge of the humanities, enabling them to participate and play a prominent role in interdisciplinary debates. 
  • Conduct research in their area of specialization that will contribute new, relevant knowledge to the advancement of the humanities.
  • Apply and generate interdisciplinary knowledge in the program’s fields of study through complex thinking with a critical and comprehensive vision of cultural and social phenomena.
  • Design strategies that will impact social life through consultancy for the public, private and civil sectors.
  • Work collectively in high-level research and teaching groups in higher education institutions, and report results, disseminate and foment scientific knowledge.-Have a proactive, creative attitude to unpublished issues with original proposals.

RESEARCH

In this program, students can choose one of four specialization areas, according to their interests. The lines of research depend on the program’s existing research groups. Ethics: this research area seeks knowledge generation in an environment in which the ethical and philosophical movements and trends of today’s society, interpreted from diverse perspectives, are questioned.

Science, technology and society: this research area seeks to study the complex relations between society, technology, science and culture, and their consequences, ranging from epistemological to financial aspects.

Communication and the media: this research area focuses on exploring and analyzing the media in contemporary society, particularly regarding participation in social construction.

Historical, cultural and literary discourse studies: this research area studies the diverse written, digital or audiovisual discourse manifestations, from historical, art and literary approaches.
